Family Shelter

The Family Shelter was developed in response to the growing need of a program to assist families who are in limbo due to socio and economic hardship. Parents are without shelter for themselves and their children, and many times have lost a job as well. Good Samaritan's Family Shelter Program provides temporary shelter for parents and their children.

Families may stay for a period of 90 days, and are evaluated for extensions which may be granted up to a maximum 2 year stay.

The cost of living at the family shelter is 30% of the resident's gross monthly income.

Within the family shelter, parents and their children may live in their own private room, or a shared room. The family shelter features a communal living room, on-site laundry facility, computer lab and an outdoor playground.

Good Samaritan Shelter also operates an After School Program, where many of the Family Shelter children recieve help with homework after school.

The goal of the Family Shelter Program is to assist families in attaining various life skills so that the family may successfully transition into independent living and can move forward towards a stable and  productive future so that the family may never experience homelessness again. In order to achieve this, families recieve intensive case management, random drug testing, and are working on a goal plan that is customized to their family.

The Family Shelter Case Manager develops a partnership with each family and leads them towards self-sufficiency by providing counseling, referrals for housing, employment related services, budgeting, educational information, parenting education and more.

Anyone who is interested in the Family Shelter Program must fill out an application and provide proof of income.
